AMD earnings reaction: AMD beat on Q3 sales and profit and guided Q4 revenue to about $17 billion, above the roughly $16.2 billion analysts expected. The stock still faded from an early pop: it opened about 0.6% higher, spiked about 6.0% by 9:47 AM, and was about 1.9% higher at 10:30 AM ET, inside the about 8.6% implied move (earnings-watcher).

The move vs what options priced
Before the report, the options market priced a move of about ±8.6% (earnings-watcher, as of Nov 3; a single source, so treat it as an estimate). That is the swing traders were paying for, in either direction.
- Tuesday close: $483.90, up 3.65% on the day.
- Before the open: as high as about $523 at 4:01 AM ET, then back to about $482 by 7:15 AM (Nasdaq.com extended-hours data).
- The open: about $486.7, a gap of about +0.6%. That is a small fraction of the implied move.
- First hour: low about $476.65 (−1.5%) at 9:34 AM, high about $513.08 (+6.0%) at 9:47 AM, then about $493.05 (+1.9%) at 10:30 AM ET.
- Volume: about 24 million shares by 10:31 AM ET, already above the roughly 21.7 million average full day (Nasdaq.com, Finviz).
Even the first-hour high stayed inside that range. We cover that idea in how to trade earnings season.

What the move did at the Zones
Zones are areas where price reacted before, places to watch for a reaction, not entries. We read three off the daily bars (see support and resistance trading for the method):
- 504–505: the Oct 30 close ($504.80); the Oct 22 low was $502.60.
- 492–497: the Oct 30 low ($492.21) and the Nov 3 high ($497.40).
- 473–476: the Nov 3 low ($473.54) and this morning’s 9:34 AM low ($476.65).
AMD opened just under 492–497, dipped to just above 473–476 (about $476.65) at 9:34, then ran through the middle Zone and above 504–505 to about $513. It could not hold above 504–505, slid back, and by 10:30 AM ET was sitting on 492–497. The stock is also below its 20-day (about $546) and 50-day (about $549) averages (Finviz); more on those lines in moving averages explained. There was a reaction at both ends; confirmation in either direction has not come yet. Coming in, AMD was down about 15% from its Oct 29 close of $566.42, so this first hour was a rebound inside a bigger drop.
What AMD reported
Third quarter 2026 (AMD 8-K, filed November 3, 2026):
- Revenue $13.4 billion ($13,377 million), up 45% from a year ago and 16% from Q2, vs about $13.1 billion expected (MoneyCheck, Inc.). A record.
- Non-GAAP EPS $2.09, up 74%, vs about $1.95 expected (MoneyCheck, Inc.). GAAP EPS was $1.46, after a $1.1 billion non-cash change in the fair value of a warrant liability.
- Gross margin 54% GAAP and 56% non-GAAP. Non-GAAP operating income $3.9 billion, a 29% margin.
- Data Center $8.5 billion, up 97%. Client and Gaming $3.7 billion, down 8% (Client $2.9 billion, up 7%; Gaming $773 million, down 40%). Embedded $1.1 billion, up 29%.

Guidance vs consensus
- Q4 revenue about $17 billion, plus or minus 3%: about 66% above a year ago and 27% above Q3 at the midpoint. Analysts expected about $16.2 billion (LSEG via Reuters per Tech-Insider: $16.23 billion; MoneyCheck: $16.3 billion; Inc.: $16.2 billion). Above.
- Non-GAAP gross margin about 55%, against 56% in Q3. We found no consensus with two sources, so we give no verdict.
- On the call, AMD said it expects 2027 revenue growth of more than 80% (earnings call transcript via Investing.com; CoinCentral).
CEO Lisa Su, in the release: “We delivered a record quarter with revenue exceeding the high end of our guidance as Data Center segment sales nearly doubled year-over-year.”

What it teaches
A strong report did not decide this first hour; the Zones did. The stock jumped before the open and gave it all back by 7:15 AM, swung from about $477 to about $513 after the open, and was back on the middle Zone by 10:30 AM ET. When news is good and price still fades from the first spike, the Zone it fades back to matters more than the headline. Mark the Zone, wait for a reaction, and let confirmation come to you. For how we prepared for this morning, see the Nov 4 premarket brief, and for yesterday’s session, the Nov 3 close recap.
No alignment, no trade.

The implied move is the size of the price swing the options market is pricing for an event like earnings, in either direction. Comparing the real move with it shows whether the news was a surprise or roughly priced in.
